Supporting you after trauma.

The Major Trauma Support Service is here for you if you, or someone you care about, has experienced a life-changing injury. We help patients and families to navigate practical, emotional and financial challenges that can follow major trauma, connecting you with trusted support when you need it most.

An experienced Patient Liaison Practitioner (PLP) based at the Major Trauma Centre in South Wales will listen to what matters to you and then help you access the right information, guidance and support you need. If you are based at Trauma Unit, the Patient Liaison Practitioner will work with your Major Trauma Practitioner or Rehabilitation Co-ordinator to ensure that support is provided throughout the South Wales Trauma Network.

Support can also be accessed through this website, as well as via telephone and email, by speaking with the Major Trauma Support Service at Hugh James. Your Patient Liaison Practitioner, Major Trauma Practitioner or Rehabilitation Co-ordinator can guide you to our contact details.

A free consultation with our friendly team will help you to access the support you need, when you need it.

How we can help

Recovering from major trauma can bring uncertainty, questions and decisions you may not feel prepared for. We are here to make things easier by bringing together a co-ordinated network of support for you and your family. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Sometimes people make assumptions about what they can and can’t access in terms of support but it is best to check with a professional as soon as possible.

By speaking with us early in the rehabilitation journey, we can help you access a wide range of practical assistance, including emotional support, welfare benefits guidance, financial help, case management, legal advice and opportunities for peer support. You can choose the support that feels right for you, and we will guide you through each option with clarity and care.
